Exploring the Monsoon Magic of Kerala: A Journey with My Cousins
In July, amidst the embrace of the monsoon season, my cousins and I embarked on an unforgettable journey to Kerala, often called "God's Own Country." For 8 days, we soaked in the lush beauty of this paradise, and the rains only added to the charm, making it 10 times more magical than I had imagined.
- Munnar: A Green Wonderland
Our first stop was Munnar, a hill station famous for its rolling tea gardens. The sight of endless green hills blanketed by mist, coupled with the refreshing smell of rain-soaked earth, was captivating. We indulged in some adventure by going off-roading—an adrenaline rush as we navigated through the rugged terrains. The monsoon heightened the experience, turning streams into gushing rivers and waterfalls into powerful cascades.
- Alleppey: The Serenity of Backwaters
From the hills, we descended to the backwaters of Alleppey, where boating took on a dreamy quality. As we glided through the narrow canals on a houseboat, the rhythm of the rain tapping on the water, surrounded by coconut trees swaying gently in the breeze, left us in awe. One of the highlights here was visiting an island, where time seemed to slow down, allowing us to enjoy the tranquility of nature.
- Varkala: Cliffs, Beaches, and Bliss
Next on our itinerary was Varkala, a coastal town known for its stunning cliffs that overlook the Arabian Sea. Despite the rain, the beaches were mesmerizing, and the sight of waves crashing against the rocks below made it even more picturesque. We couldn't resist the water rides, which were a fun contrast to the peaceful boat rides in Alleppey. The seafood here was mouthwatering, offering a delightful blend of flavors that perfectly complemented the vibe of the town.
- Thiruvananthapuram: The Heart of Kerala
Our final destination was Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city. Exploring the rich history and culture of this place was a treat, especially with the ancient temples and palaces that stood tall against the dramatic monsoon skies. We ventured into the areas around the city, where the rain-drenched landscapes continued to captivate us.
- The Food and Stay
Kerala's culinary scene was nothing short of a revelation. Every meal was a celebration of flavors, from spicy curries to the traditional Kerala sadya, served on banana leaves. The fresh, local ingredients combined with the warmth of the people made our dining experiences memorable. Our stay, too, was wonderful—each location offering unique accommodations, from cozy cottages in Munnar to houseboats in Alleppey.
A Journey to Remember
Kerala in the monsoon is an experience unlike any other. The rain adds a mystical quality to the landscapes, making everything more vibrant and alive. Our trip was a perfect blend of adventure, relaxation, and cultural exploration, and the bond we shared as cousins made it even more special.
